A few years ago Clemson had to cut down many of the beautiful trees on campus. These trees were more than just trees to the students, faculty, and alumni. They were a part of Clemson and a part of the students time at the university. So the idea to re-purpose the wood into products for Clemson was put forward. This led to the creations of beautiful bowls and wooden pens being made for alumni.
Soon the Clemson ring was mentioned in a meeting with the master craftsman who was making the pens and bowls. He proposed making ring boxes out of the wood as well.
The ring box's were and instant hit with the student and alumni with several thousand being sold each year.
Other universities loved the idea of recycling the wood on their own campuses or purchasing ring boxes for their own students and alumni.
Some universities make the ring boxes a gift for alumni who donate a certain amount while many others give students the option to receive them when they graduate and purchase their class ring.
No matter how the ring box's are passed on to students, they are a wonderful way for students to remain connected to the universities they love so much.
